Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 15, 2026. Short version: MyShipName collects nothing about you. This page explains exactly what that means.
The names you enter
Every name you type into any generator on this site is processed entirely inside your own web browser, by JavaScript running on your device. Nothing is sent to our servers, saved to a database, logged, or transmitted anywhere. When you close the tab, your inputs are gone. We designed the site this way on purpose: we can't misuse, lose, or sell data we never receive.
What we don't collect
- No accounts. There is no signup, login, or user profile — so there is nothing to attach data to.
- No analytics tied to you. The site ships with no analytics enabled. If we add privacy-friendly, aggregate analytics later, this policy will be updated first.
- No advertising trackers. There are no ad networks, retargeting pixels, or third-party tracking scripts on these pages.
- No contact harvesting. The contact page opens your own email app — messages go directly from you to us via email, and we only keep what you choose to send.
Local storage on your device
If you tap the heart icon on a generated name, it is saved to your browser's local storage so your favorites survive a page reload. This data lives only on your device, is never transmitted to us, and you can clear it anytime through your browser settings (usually under "site data" or "storage"). Clearing your browser data removes your favorites permanently.
Server logs
Like nearly every website, our hosting provider may keep standard, short-lived server logs (such as IP addresses and requested pages) for security and reliability purposes. We do not combine these logs with anything else, do not use them to profile visitors, and do not share them. If you deploy this site yourself, consult your host's own policy for their log retention.
External links
Some pages link to external sites (for example, reference articles about portmanteaus or fandom culture). Those sites have their own privacy policies, which we don't control. Opening an external link is subject to that site's practices, not ours.
Children
MyShipName is a general-audience site and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 — because it doesn't collect personal information from anyone at all.
Changes to this policy
If we ever change how the site handles data — for example, by adding analytics — we will update this page and change the "last updated" date above before the change takes effect. The current version will always live at this URL.
